Canada's first indoor rodeo

akg2155

The Stavely Rodeo was started in 1956 and has been through good times and bad, surviving two fires and undertaking two major construction projects.

All was accomplished with the help of good friends, generous neighbours & great volunteers.

1929
First Indoor Rodeo in Canada (maybe the world).

1956
The annual Indoor Rodeo started. Due to a storm theRodeo didn’t end until 4 AM.

1958
Stavely rink burned down after the Rodeo was held, but with the spirit of Stavely, a new rink was built and ready for the Rodeo the following year.

1982
The rebuilt arena burned down a week before the Rodeo. Everything had been set up, so with many hours of volunteer help, chutes were painted and the event was moved to the Claresholm Agriplex to continue the annual tradition.

1983 - 84
The Indoor Rodeo had to be held in Claresholm again as the new arena was still being constructed. Organizers have always been appreciative of all the support provided by the Willow Creek Ag Society.

1985
The Idoor Rodeo was held again in Stavely in the brand new and present arena.

2003
The 47th Annual Indoor Rodeo was held.

2004
Upon the loss of some major sponsors and the health of the rural economy, a decision was made to Cancel the Rodeo for that year.

2005
The Rodeo was back . . . Bigger and Better!

2006
The Tradition continues, with another crowd pleaser.

2007
Celebrated the 50th Edition of the Rodeo and a Salute to our Volunteers.

2008 - 11
Celebrating a tradition, with the 5th decade of this historical event, continued success.

2012
The 55th Edition of the Stavely Indoor Pro Rodeo, plus celebrating the Town of Stavely’s Centennial year. Happy 100th Stavely!
